Elcho Island Arts

Elcho Island Arts is located in Galiwin’ku, the main community on Elcho Island. Art styles produced by more than 200 Yolŋu artists include the iconic Banumbirr (Morning Star Poles), bark paintings, hollow logs, three-dimensional and sculptural works, soft sculpture and fibre art, yidaki (didgeridoos), artefacts, jewellery, paintings on canvas and works on paper.

Some lead artists from Elcho Island Arts include: Mavis Ganambarr, Judy Manany, Megan Yunupingu, Peter Dartjin, Gali Yalkarriwuy Gurruwiwi (deceased) and Paul Buwang Buwang.

Bukmak’kuŋ Djäma Malaynha or, ‘Everyone’s Works’ presented familiar favourites such as the beloved carved birds from Megan Yunupingu and Judy Manany, and introduced a new collection of carvings, weavings, painted barks, Warrabunbun and Banumbirr (Morning star poles) from Elcho artists, Dorothy Dhamarrandji Wirritjwirritj, Margaret Ganambarr Gudumurrkuwuy, Mavis Ganambarr Warrŋgilŋa, Pam Ganambarr Gawura, Paul Buwang Buwang Gurruwiwi and Sandy Pascoe.
