Mokuy 23-42

David Djarrka's Mokuy carvings represent the ceremonial paintings used by the Djambarrpuyngu clan’s during funeral ceremony. These Mokuy tell the story of what
happens when the Djambarrpuyngu clan come together and paint up, to sing and dance the song lines and stories of the clan member that has died. The Mokuy represent the singing and dancing for the clan member’s safe journey back to country.


Funeral Ceremony Mokuy is a Dhuwa story from David Djarrka’s Clan and is
part of his family’s ceremonies. This story is encoded in painting designs applied to the body during  ceremony..
