Uncontrolled Development

Exhibition brief:

This exhibition will embrace the uncontrollable elements that make contemporary cities – Melbourne in particular – unique. It could be an exploration into the rapidly expanding and evolving impact humanity has within the modern urban environment, or a response to the rapid gentrification of otherwise ‘undesirable’ neighbourhoods – especially in a time when street art iconography is seen as a commodity of the urban aesthetic and is not uncommon on gallery walls. A celebration of ‘city’; we aim to return to present works which find beauty in the messiness and hardness of the urban sprawl.

Brunswick Street Gallery welcomes applications from artists working in both 2D and 3D mediums.

We also strongly encourage applications from mural/street/paste-up artists to present their work directly on the gallery walls. Please contact Jacqui at to discuss details.

Fees: $40 per work (only works which are selected for exhibition will be liable for a fee)
*works larger than 1m may incur a higher fee. Please contact gallery staff for details.

Exhibition dates: 17 May – 2 June 2019
Opening Friday 17 May 6 – 9pm
