What am I looking at? I

‘What am I looking at?’ is a collection of photographs that examines the role of a photographer and the medium of photography. Each image was shot on 35mm film; arguably the photographer has captured a fleeting moment in its purest and most authentic form. Upon self-reflection however, the photographer has realised that he has manipulated what is in front of him and masked aspects of reality, perhaps through his choice of film stock or deliberate framing. Intentional or not (this is for the viewer to consider), these images began as mere observations but have since become interpretations of the photographer’s world, projections of his own experiences, and an insight into his thoughts at the exact time the shutter was released. This collection of images represents the relationship between objective and subjective realism and prompts the viewer to ask themselves, “What am I looking at?”
