Fake v/s Real

Real Ring, Maca Bernal, 2024. Sterling Silver, 18kt gold plating. Hand modelled in wax, cast with low tech, hand finished. Total time to make 11.5hrs. Hardly any machines were involved in the process.

The jewellery industry is infected with diverse ideas of what is fake and what is real. Are lab-grown diamonds, synthetic gemstones, 3D printing and other automated processes intended to leave the human hand, the mark of the maker and the serendipitous nature of handmade jewellery in the dust? Do you have a preference? Do you care? And if so, why?
