Mickey Mason (b. 1993) is a self-taught artist based in Port Elliot, South Australia.
Filtered through his contemporary pop sensibilities, Mickey Mason’s textural paintings are soaked in familiar references to the camp theatricality of 1960’s film and television—from the Spaghetti Western to the hapless supervillain of Timothy Dalton era Bond.
Set in idealised landscapes that feel like collages of an any-place-paradise, Mickey’s brightly coloured acrylics are at once an escapist melange of popular imagery, and a witty criticism of the contemporary tendency to artificially depict one’s ‘best life’.
