EXHIBITION PROPOSALS NOW OPEN
As a contemporary art space championing creative practices that demonstrate exceptional skill and craftsmanship, we pride ourselves on showcasing some of Australia’s most exciting emerging and established artists and craftspeople. Located in the heart of Fitzroy–one of Melbourne’s most creative suburbs–Brunswick Street Gallery has multiple exhibition spaces and two dedicated stockrooms.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
Each proposal is considered on its own merits. While there is no single formula for a successful application, we generally look for exhibitions that demonstrate one or more of the following:
- A cohesive and well-resolved exhibition concept.
- A strong and distinctive artistic practice.
- Technical proficiency and thoughtful engagement with materials and process.
- Originality, ambition, or a fresh perspective within the artist's chosen medium.
- A clear sense of purpose and the ability to communicate ideas through the work.
- Professional presentation and a commitment to producing a high-quality exhibition.
Alongside the artistic merit of each proposal, we also consider how an exhibition contributes to the broader Brunswick Street Gallery exhibition program. We aim to present a diverse and engaging annual schedule, and therefore consider the relationship between each proposal, our audience, and the overall balance of the program. This includes the potential to engage collectors, curators, designers, and the wider contemporary arts community.
We are particularly interested in proposals that present a considered body of work and a cohesive exhibition vision, where the exhibition is conceived as a complete experience rather than simply a collection of individual artworks.
We welcome proposals from both emerging and established artists working across all contemporary visual art practices.
