Penelope Duke is a New Zealand born ceramicist now living in the forest in the Yarra Ranges.
Using overlapping matte glazes on a high fired and textured clay body, Penelope creates pieces on the potters wheel that are designed to be useful as well as beautiful, and robust enough to be used every day. The forms are very simple, with a particular interest the relationship between shadows and light, positive and negative space.
Stocking works in several design stores and gallery shops around the world Penelope has also had her work featured in many books and magazines including Frankie, Home Beautiful, Gourmet Traveller, Elle, Wallpaper*, Country Style, and in 2018 was included as part of the documentary series “Women in Art” by Paperbox media. Penelope has participated in both group and solo exhibitions across Australia, and was a finalist in the Bay of Fires art prize in 2022.
