Sinners, Saints & Fools
Bella Insch
27 January–11 February 2024

Sinners, Saints and Fools is a collection of figurative ceramic works, exploring themes of queer pride and identity, loss, and belonging in the face of external disruption. Inspired by Catholic iconography and Mexican arts, the heavily embellished sculptures are informed by the intersection of personal narrative and decorative camp. Bella says:

“I am interested in the complexities of human relationships: queer joy, romantic interludes, grief, and the desire for depth of connection. At the same time, I have developed a deep appreciation for elaborate depictions of the feminine and the sacred; the more ornate the better! I have been finding creating work in this repetitive, mimetic way soothing in a time of personal and global chaos”.

Bella Insch AThR is an emerging visual artist with an ongoing studio-based practice. She works predominantly in ceramic sculpture. Bella grew up and is delighted to practice on Yuin Country {Pambula, NSW}.

She holds a Graduate Diploma and Master of Art Therapy as well as a Bachelor’s degree in visual arts (Majoring in sculpture and drawing). Bella is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and she exhibits widely within Australia. Her work explores narrative and the complexities of human interactions, attachment, longing and loss.

Please join us for a drink to celebrate the opening of Sinners, Saints & Fools on Saturday 27th January (6–8PM).
