BETWEEN US
Gabriela Mello & Jade Piltz
14 NOVEMBER–1 December

Between Us, is a collaborative exhibition by Gabriela Mello and Jade Piltz that explores the relational nature of the creative process and the emergent possibilities that arise from making art together. This exhibition highlights the significance of shared creative practices, emphasizing how relationality, communal spaces, and the translation of inner experiences into tangible forms can foster empathy, vulnerability, and openness. It reveals the transformative and dynamic interplay between collaborative artists, underscoring the importance of connection and the shared essence of our experiences.

The exhibition features ceramic pieces by Gabriela Mello alongside mixed media works by Jade Piltz, showcasing the dialogue between their distinct artistic mediums.

Visitors will be immersed in the artists' shared creative space, enriched by video documentation that offers insight into their collaborative journey. A projected film created by Tim Harris will capture intimate moments of Gabie and Jade working side by side, revealing the depth of their partnership.

An interactive installation will invite audience participation during the opening night of the exhibition, allowing visitors to engage directly with the creative process. By utilizing materials provided by the artists, attendees can explore the transformative nature of art-making, celebrating both shared human experiences and individual differences.

Gabriela Mello (she/her) is a Latinx multidisciplinary artist and the owner and director of Warrandyte Pottery, a gallery and ceramics studio. Having just completed a Master’s in Therapeutic Arts with specialization in Arts-Based Research, her life is dedicated to fostering community, exploring the nuances of clay, and embracing relationality—the intricate connections between individuals and their environments.

Gabie’ s work is deeply influenced by her attunement to the unique ways we navigate the world. Through the interplay of emergent mark-making, texture, color, form, and material, she engages with her artistic practice as a reflection of her experiences and interactions. Each piece invites viewers to explore the multifaceted relationships that shape our existence, celebrating the beauty and complexity of connection.

Jade Piltz (she/her) is an artist living and working in Naarm, Melbourne. Fascinated by our innate search for belonging, persistent desire for meaning and our relationship to change, Jade’s arts practice explores the ways our interactions with our surroundings narrate our lives.

Her large scale paintings present layers of colour, pattern and gesture, each layer activating the next in a playful unknowing within the creative process. The quality of moment in passing is revealed as the viewer observes remnants of each layer, as if marking time and mapping memory.
