EXPRESSIONS OF A GARDEN
CARSTEN SEGERLUND FREDERIKSEN
11–26 JULY

Carsten Segerlund Frederiksen is a climate scientist, environmentalist, and artist who is passionate about depicting and conserving the natural environment. In Expressions of a Garden, he employs a lyrical expressionist style, using bold colour shifts, expressive mark-making, and overpainting to create flow, movement, and musical rhythm. Rather than offering literal snapshots of nature, his works distil natural forms into poetic expressions of the garden.

Each painting evolved without a preconceived image in mind. Instead, they emerged through a process of spontaneous mark-making and successive layers of colour, allowing imagery to surface from the artist's subconscious. The resulting works reveal a rich range of sensibilities, reflecting the artist's temperament and his affinity for bold, expressive colour.

In several paintings, Carsten employs what he describes as "Anatomical Abstraction", a technique in which the internal structural framework and the external surface of objects are depicted simultaneously, sometimes interwoven, to create a more complete representation of their form. His strong musical sense of rhythm and movement also animates many of the works throughout the exhibition.

Join us on Saturday 11 July to celebrate the opening of Expressions of a Garden (6–8PM).
