Growing, Unnoticed
Declan Monaghan
12–27 July

Growing, Unnoticed is a series by Declan Monaghan that explores our relationship with nature. The series uses photographs taken by the artist in August 2024 while bushwalking in the Dandenong Ranges. During this walk, Declan was struck by the beauty present in even the smallest landscapes and environments.

Growing, Unnoticed calls attention to natural spaces and the inherent beauty within small spaces. Works include macro shots of moss, lichen, bark and fungi in addition to larger environments. The artist wants the audience to closely examine each image, reconnecting with the complexity and beauty of the unnoticed 'small things' in nature.

This series includes grayscale photographic etchings and coloured chine collé prints. Chine collé is a printmaking method where additional colour and texture is added using lightweight paper. The artist uses chine collé to redirect our focus. In this, the audience has an opportunity to examine the same images as presented in a very different manner.

Please join us for a drink to celebrate the opening of Growing, Unnoticed on Saturday 12 July (6–8PM)
