23 October – 9 November
"Birds are the first things we see, you know, when we wake up. See and hear. Birds are like roosters to us, they wake us up in the mornings. And when the sun goes down they go to sleep and we go to sleep. You know us old people start and finish the day with the birds. That’s everyday life between birds and humans, you know. That’s what I think about anyway."
As much a part of her Country as she is, Nyangulya Katie Nalgood shares a profound affinity with birds. Her days unfold alongside them — rising with their morning song, watching them soar across the sky and settle in the trees.
Her paintings capture the spirit and personality of each bird, often reflecting her own family, friends, and self, a testament to the deep connection she feels with their presence in her life.
Katie paints birds native to her Country in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, as well as those from further afield, her imagination flying with them across the land.
In Friends in Flocks, Katie shares her world — one filled with birds who carry our joy in their flight.
Please join us to celebrate the opening of Friends in Flocks on Friday 24 October (6–8PM)
This exhibition is presented by BSG Projects, in association with Spinifex Hill Studio, an initiative of FORM.
