Paghahanda
John Gatip
26 march–12 april 2026

In preparation (paghahanda) for an important event in Gatip’s life (ps. she said yes), this collection becomes a timestamp of the planning process.

Music, history, culture and gardening become the source of inspiration. Colours that are influenced by the richness of ranunculus flowers as he prepares the corms in autumn for planting and harvest by November.

His research into traditional Filipino clothing led him to take cues on one of the earliest records of Filipino culture. 'The Boxer Codex' c.1590 contains watercolour illustrations of striped barongs and baro’t sayas in vibrant colours as he ditches the suit and tie for something that is of his culture.

Gatip's painting process is accompanied by a range of music genres–in turn influenced the planning of such an event–ranging from medieval choral music to the sweet dulcet tones of Mama Cass. Listen along with the collection playlist Paghahanda on Spotify.

Overall, this collection is a presentation of joy and excitement.
