PERPETUAL WORKS
SAMUEL O’MALLEY
24 October–10 November

This exhibition summarises several chapters of Samuel’s painting practice explored from late 2023 to the present. The images are painted using traditional oil painting principles. The subject matter often features motifs of white-collar figures piled together, and the Braque-inspired compositions, along with a saturated dark pastel palette, create a vaguely dreamy quality in the scenes.

"Perpetual Works" is divided into three distinct subjects. The first series, titled “Dog Eat Dog World,” examines government cabinet brawls, contrasting the pompous, austere political figures with the chaos of an impulsive brawl.

The second series draws inspiration from Reuben’s painting Fall of the Damned, depicting piles of intertwined beings struggling against one another toward an undisclosed goal.

The final series explores friendships formed through employment, celebrating the companions we make in school and our daily work routines. Set in unremarkable, stark settings, this series emphasises our appreciation for these figures who occupy much of our time.

Please join us for a drink to celebrate the opening of Perpetual Works on Friday 25 October (6–8PM)
