In the Moment
Vaughan Prain
11–26 JULY
Vaughan Prain's figurative paintings engage with contemporary experience, exploring the narrative and psychological possibilities that emerge through human interaction, or the absence of it. Drawing on the themes and stylistic approaches of German Expressionists such as Kirchner and Beckmann, his work depicts people in recognisable situations while celebrating the freedom and spontaneity of movement and dance.
Using a painterly approach and richly saturated colour, Prain conveys emotional intensity by applying acrylic paint directly from the pot. Some works are infused with humour, while others adopt a more contemplative tone, focusing on the characteristic gestures, postures, and demeanour of their subjects. Each painting captures a moment within a larger, implied narrative, inviting viewers to imagine the stories unfolding beyond the frame.
Join us on Saturday 11 July to celebrate the opening of In The Moment (6–8PM).
