Rockery I
Amy Wright’s practice is driven by a fascination with abandoned landscapes — places discarded, overlooked, and left to grow wild. Each painting becomes a kind of Wunderkammer, a cabinet of curiosities where reality merges with imagination. Vegetation spills across the canvas in untamed profusion, while tiered, towering landscapes obscure the horizon, inviting the viewer into a world both familiar and fantastical.
Working primarily in acrylic, charcoal, and pastel, Wright approaches painting much like collage — assembling fragmented, cropped elements into layered compositions that explore concealment and revelation. Pattern, texture, and colour are at the heart of her process, creating rich, sensory narratives of place.
Within Wright’s works, discover the golden glow of wattle, the warm blush and bronze of rocky escarpments, and the vivid purples and blues of late spring florals — all captured with her distinctive blend of energy, intuition, and precision, distilling the fleeting palettes of the Australian landscape.
