Mother's Song

Home, heritage and motherhood are recurring themes throughout Chloe Caday’s works. In her latest body of work, Caday reflects on the cultural significance of folk dances and its  preservation of the stories, rituals and traditions of her homeland. Rooted in agricultural rituals and daily life, the works capture dancers in motion – passing down stories of ancient rituals, colonial influences and community from pre-colonial history to modern foreign influences.

Chloe Caday (she/her b.1997) is a contemporary landscape painter based in Wadawurrung country, Victoria. Recognised by her gestural landscapes, Caday explores her historical, cultural and spiritual connections to place utilising her practice to connect with her Filipino heritage and life living and working in the Victorian bushland. Caday’s practice is a direct response to her experiences and memories within Australian and Filipino landscapes, acknowledging the ability of the land to hold forgotten histories and stories. Caday holds a BFA from RMIT, and has been exhibiting across Australia since 2017. She is currently represented by Curatorial+Co (SYD) and has been a finalist in several art prizes, such as the 2022 Paddington Art Prize and the 2023 Blacktown City Art Prize.
