Green Vessel 4

Em Frank is a multidisciplinary artist living and working across Tandanya/Adelaide and Mparntwe/Alice Springs. At its core, Em’s practice is grounded in by collaboration and collective making – spaces that are exciting, generative and disruptive. Em’s work explores themes of belonging and collective care, with a significant focus on material exploration. Her current work draws heavily on the last ten years spent living and working in the remote Central Desert and her personal experiences of connection and loss.

Working in ceramics as her primary medium, Em’s practice extends across drawing, painting, mixed media and assemblage. She has a bowerbird-like proclivity for collecting discarded and broken materials and an abiding compulsion to tinker and play. Lately Em has been exploring the visual and material dialogue between clay and metal, and the use of ancient techniques in pursuit of a contemporary aesthetic.

Em is currently a Jam Factory Ceramics Associate. She works with Ku Arts as a project manager, Iwiri arts as a ceramic’s technician, and facilitates remote art projects with Tjanpi Desert Weavers in the APY Lands.
