Unattainable Silence
In a careful balancing act, ‘silence’ is a way to reflect and retreat from all of the noise, but it can also come from a place of ignorance and guilt. At a time when fires were raging all around nearby communities, there were eerie moments of silence and stillness surrounding the artist’s home in the bush. The forest – which has become a place of retreat and refuge for the artist, has suddenly become a reminder of the uncontrollable nature and continuous cycle of loss and renewal. Caday’s works reveal the tension of an environment that is both beautiful in its isolation and devastation – drawing on the parallels of the current environmental and cultural context of our society.
This artwork is included in the group exhibition The Quiet Hours, on display from 26 March–12 April 2026
