David is interested in how we see, perceive and try and make sense of the world around us.

Playing with colour, form and structure, he seeks to create images about stillness and time (or rather timelessness). 

His starting point is settling on a subject that lets him work within the formal framework of painting – activating the painted surface, flattening or deepening space, playing with the illusory plane, using colour to describe form, and working within the four sides of the picture – and through that process seek to make an enduring image.
