An Old One 4215-26

As told by the artist:

"This is about my mother's clan, Gumatj. The story of the bäru (crocodile). At the top is a hole for the bäru to go in, it is his wäŋa (home). On the side is my Mother's clan design."

The lino block from which this print was made was unearthed in the artists storage shed during a visit from the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, where it had lain for more than 10 years according to Dhambit.

Dhambit was hit by a car in 2007 and suffered serious head injuries, and as a result uses a wheelchair and has altered movement and speech. Through her husband’s support and her own courage she has used art to overcome the effects of the accident. Her powerful and spontaneous paintings have made her a world renowned artist.
