Marine Luminescence

Forms and Figures of Noise and Omittance encapsulates the output and process of these works by Elijah Värttö, as both abstract and depictive works, in the medium of spray paint on guillotined aluminium panels. Each layer is formed by a torn edge, omitting that which is not masked. The layers of colours are speckled and noisy, as are the outlines. The precise geometric cuts of the Aluminium panels are the contrast and framing of the contents.

Underpinning these works are aspects of the elemental: fire, atmosphere, minerals and water. Forms to be ascertained in shadows and light. The human form comes into being only occasionally as a colourful shadow or outline. Abstracting all themes, these works touch on imagined antique history, fire with life most resilient, and the microscopic viewing.

This exhibition is supported by the City of PAE (Port Adelaide Enfield).
