Wild Apples & Ring Necks

Gabrielle Bisaro is a mixed media artist whose practice draws inspiration from Australia's native flora and fauna, using the natural world as both subject and storyteller. Through vibrant compositions, she explores the evolving relationship between native wildlife and the environments they inhabit, reflecting on the pressures created by invasive species, habitat loss, and environmental change. Her work also highlights threatened Australian bird species, encouraging greater awareness of the challenges they face and the importance of conservation.

Research is central to Bisaro's creative process. Each work begins with an investigation into the ecology and behaviour of a chosen species before evolving through sketches into expressive, layered compositions. Working with spray paint and Posca pens, she combines bold colour, intricate linework, and tactile mark-making to capture the energy and character of her subjects. By blending pigments directly on the surface, she creates depth and movement that reflect the complexity and resilience of Australia's diverse ecosystems.
