“These landscapes, extracted from the depths of memory, of holiday road trips and the drives home. Long hours in the car as passenger, staring out to the hills and across waterways, were times of rest and reflection. From a child, I grew fond of the landscapes, following the flow of the land as we passed. My thoughts filled the long stretches of road. I imagined that every tree I saw was placed by hand hundreds of years ago. I would think about all the animals that were hidden from view; the koalas we might see if we slowed, the snakes that I was thankful we couldn’t. The drive was just as valuable as the destination.” –Jessie Beard
