Justine Wahlin begins each work by drawing lines in direct response to the moving landscape. Back in the studio, these marks evolve into imagined landscapes that retain a strong sense of place. Within the lines, animals and figures sometimes emerge, though care is taken not to overwork these elements, leaving space for surprise and allowing viewers to form their own interpretations.

Justine’s paintings combine a range of materials, including crushed rock pigments, charcoal, pastels, wax crayon, acrylic, and oil paint. The resulting surfaces carry a frenetic energy, occasionally punctuated by open space, echoing the movement of walking through the landscape itself.
