"My name is Rekeshia but to make it easier you can call me Keshia or Riki (Ricky). I have always loved painting, but I never thought I would get the chance or even be where I am today.

When I was young I asked my grandfathers if they could teach my how to paint like them. My mum’s dad (Pop) told me that because he was apart of the stolen generation, he didn't have any cultural exposure and learnings. this is why he didn't really paint he only drew pictures of the landscape because he was taken into the Moore river mission at a young age but he always would tell me to always follow my heart when I paint. My other grandfather taught me to use bright colours and to make my paintings my own style, I am honoured to be able to carry on my family name and show the love and passion my family has when it comes to painting and sharing our stories in our own way. My Grandmother's side is from Carnarvon and my grandfather’s side is from Meekatharra. My mum was born in Dampier and grew up all over the Pilbara. While she was pregnant with me she was living in Nullagine at the time, she got to meet amazing elders that helped her while she was there. My mum had me in Port Hedland but she returned back to Nullagine for a little while when I was a toddler but then she decided to come back to Hedland.

My artworks are a reflection of my life’s journey, the bonds with family and friends I have created and the stories and experiences my old people went through. When I start a work I put my headphones on and put my music on and zone out from the world. When I am in my zone I get pictures, colours, shapes, patterns and sometimes memories come into my mind. I've had the amazing opportunity to be able to grow up in this beautiful country and meet amazing people who have help encourage me to follow my passion to paint and create beautiful and unique pieces."
