Jilamara 221-24

Ken Wayne has been carving ironwood and painting on canvas, paper and bailer shells with natural ochres since the early years of the Ngaruwanajirri group.

Ken Wayne is a respected leader and has been Chair of the Ngaruwanajirri committee for 20 years.

The subject matter of his paintings are often Tiwi traditional weapons and Tutini (pukumani poles) and Jilamara (pattern).

In 2024 Ken Wayne has taken to painting on stringybark, an ancient Tiwi tradition. These works are a beautiful combination of traditional jilamara and Ken Wayne's very fine painting technique.

Each work takes many hours to complete, where Ken Wayne is deeply absorbed in the delicate process of creating jilamara.
