Summer Rudbeckia

Floral Harvest brings together two distinct, yet complementary artistic practices. Leesa Cowan's exquisitely hand-crafted paper flowers, and Jo Dunsmuir's striking, yet simply rendered floral still life paintings.
Working in different mediums, yet united by a shared sensibility, both artists explore a deep love of gardening and the quiet beauty found in the flowers they grow, tend, and cherish.

Leesa has been growing flowers on her farm for the past 10 years, saying ‘my rural surroundings really inspire my work’. The flowers she grows change from season to season, and the glorious colours and intricate details of her favourite blooms enable spectacular creations.
She likes to think of her work as a portable garden.

Jo's oil paintings distill the essence of her garden into pared back, contemplative compositions that celebrate both colour and form.
Her still life works reflect treasured moments of domestic life, where seasonal cuttings are gathered from her garden and brought indoors for display, enjoyment, and for gifting.

This body of work honours the abundant floral harvest of both artists’ gardens - a celebration of cultivation, care, and the enduring dialogue between garden and home. Together, Leesa and Jo invite viewers to pause, look closely, and appreciate the fleeting, yet deeply sustaining beauty of flowers.
