Blue door
This series of interior landscapes by Philip James Mylecharane proposes a different form of landscape; one that avoids mythologising nature, wildness or appeals to utopian ideals around our relationship with nature. Instead, it turns inward, using interior space as a means to reflect on the artifice and temporality of the buildings and structures we inhabit. With a unique combination of representation and abstraction, each painting's surface hosts a visual wrestle between order and disarray. The multiple dichotomies created by Mylecharane echo a broader social anxiety of how we present ourselves between public and private spaces. Much like the texture of everyday life, these works embody forms that are contingent and in flux; façades that both mirror and internalise our thoughts, emotions, and desires.
