Treasure
We've been sold a lie—a seductive, dangerous lie. We've come to equate the aspirational life with endless acquisition. Bigger houses. Better cars. Wardrobes overflowing with clothes. The latest device. Consume. Flaunt. Desire. Discard. Upgrade. Repeat. Perhaps we could learn something from the Great Bowerbird. At first glance, it too seems driven by aspiration, constantly refining and embellishing its home. Yet theirs is a resourceful and harmless existence. They take only what is readily available and nothing is destroyed or damaged in the process. They also want to improve, but not at the expense of every other plant and animal on the planet. We could be more like the Great Bowerbird. – Sonia Martignon
It’s quite easy to take birds for granted. A part of everyday life, their dawn chorus welcomes us into the day. They remain ever-present, often unnoticed and unbothered by our presence in their world (until you drop a chip, that is).
As diverse in depiction as there are species in the Aves family, Flock celebrates their presence in art and in our lives, inviting a host of artists to take a playful approach to creating a veritable aviary of feathered friends Flock reminds us that, whether a pandemonium of parrots or a parliament of owls, every flock is composed of diverse individuals.
