The Worker's Club

Zory McGrath is a Bulgaria-born painter whose charming cityscapes explore how individual identities form, and are formed by, collective experiences of public space.

Gleaning inspiration from the sights and sounds of Melbourne’s suburban streets, McGrath’s painted stills of urban life picture places that feel familiar yet foreign, where recognisable features of local landmarks appear as if remembered through the eyes of another. Expressed with impressionistic detail and a characteristically vibrant colour palette, McGrath organises the interplay between human figures and architectural forms into clever compositions and visual narratives that consider the complexity of our connection with the environment today.

"I see my art as an ever-evolving process, just as the world is ever-evolving around us."

Zory McGrath is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice depicts contemporary urban spaces to tell the stories embedded within it. Her work has been exhibited widely in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Australia and overseas, having completed private commissions for local and international clients, most recently for Melbourne Cricket Ground. McGrath holds a BA and MA in Fine Art, and is currently represented by Brunswick Street Gallery.
