ELOISE WHITE

Eloise White

Using traditional hand-building techniques, Eloise White's organic, feminine forms are created using raw slabs of clay and coiling processes, leaving irregularities on the surface of the vessel. For the artist, the human imprint is an important part of the aesthetic, as it unapologetically conveys the close relationship between the material, the form and its maker.

My process is about mindfulness and the methodical purpose with which I make. I am drawn to creating vessels that are made from the earth and sculpted by my hands. I find this process endlessly poetic as vessels have been made this way from clay, since the beginning of time.”

White’s practice is grounded in the study of ancient forms, clay techniques and cultures that are steeped in hand building traditions. Her work is a unique exploration that seeks to bring a sense of humanity to a world consumed by mass production.
