The Tremendous Activity of A Boy Sitting Still
Brennan O'Brien
18 April–5 May 2024
The tremendous activity of a boy sitting still presents 9 new oil, pigment, and distemper paintings. Many of the works are presented as diptychs, delving into the relationship between left-brain analysis and right-brain intuition. Each canvas embodies the artist's contemplative journey, exploring the interplay of cognitive functions.
Through a fusion of distempered grounds and spontaneous mark-making, the artwork navigates the tension between stillness and motion, inviting viewers to ponder the complexities of the human psyche.
Interactions within the landscapes reflect on the amalgamation of minds, further influenced by the observer's perception. This dialogue mirrors the dichotomies in brain hemispheres, suggesting a synthesis of experience for true understanding.
Rooted in the artist's struggle with alexithymia, the exhibition aims to evoke emotional resonance beyond verbal expression. The tremendous activity of a boy sitting still offers a captivating exploration of colour, cognition, and the profound stillness within artistic creation.
