Conversations with Echoes

25 JANUARY–9 FEBRUARY
'Growing up in a very unconventional household, this work deals with the memory and emotion of coming to terms with my dystopian childhood.' - Harriet Links
This abstract, autobiographical body of work reflects Harriet's exploration of the "shadow self"—aspects of her identity she could no longer ignore. It delves into the layered nuances of her upbringing and the experience of growing up in Australia in the 1980s.
Through her paintings, Harriet revisits memories and details of past events that have, until now, remained in the background. By confronting these "shadow aspects" of herself—traversing through feelings of hurt, anger, pain, joy, trauma, optimism, humour, love, and gratitude—she embarks on a personal journey of restoration, repair, and empowerment.
Her work examines the intricacies of the human condition, offering a visual testament to her ongoing process of self-discovery. In her current practice, she explores the tension between stillness and movement, inspired by a profound curiosity shaped by her global travels and diverse life experiences.
The paintings themselves are provocative in their subject matter, inviting viewers into the visual realm to interpret the work according to their own personal response and relationship to it.
