Instant Relief: The Power of Two Printmakers
Kirstin Lowe & Natasha Davis
6–23 March

Instant Relief: The Power of Two Printmakers showcases the works of Kirstin Lowe and Tasha Davis, two emerging printmakers responding to the demands of contemporary life through contrasting styles.

Tasha Davis explores the figurative realm, drawing inspiration from everyday life. Her detailed compositions portray both public scenes, like neighbourhood bars, and private moments, such as gatherings around a dinner table. These seemingly simple settings gain depth and complexity through her meticulous attention to detail, capturing the richness of the external world and the artist's vibrant internal dialogue.

Conversely, Kirstin Lowe’s work approaches similar themes through abstraction. Her pieces, influenced by a desire to break free from the constraints of corporate structure, embody fluidity and freedom. By manipulating space, layering, and colour, she creates art that challenges boundaries and conventions, offering a counterbalance to rigidity.

The exhibition unites these distinct artistic practices—figuration and abstraction—that often stand in opposition. This pairing reveals that these approaches share more common ground than conventional classifications imply. In Tasha’s figures, hints of abstraction surface, and within Kirstin’s abstractions, moments of tangible form emerge. The interplay of these methods underscores art’s intricate nature and the broader complexity of contemporary expression and perception
