Magic of Memory
Jaclyn Poke
7–24 March 2024
“The beach near my home is where I see life unfolding; the revealing of age-old stories through nature. A presence that is infinitely more wise and powerful than me.”
Magic of Memory presents a series of abstracted visual narratives of artist Jaclyn Poke’s local landscapes or ‘home spaces’. These are places of sentimentality, full of childhood memories and significant events from her family’s history and evoke a sense of reminiscing.
It is the energy felt during these moments, and the childlike sense of wonder and the familiar, that is harnessed and reproduced in this series of romantic, dream-like paintings.
Having lived in Tasmania for most of her life, Jaclyn enjoys returning to places of earlier significance which have taken on new meaning and importance in her adult years.
Jaclyn Poke is a painter, teacher and art therapist living on the Northwest coast of Tasmania. Her Impressionist sea and landscapes contain layers of memory, texture and pattern that tell a story of the local scenery depicted. She has exhibited in group and solo shows across Australia and continues to build her arts practice.
Please join us for a drink to celebrate the opening of Magic of Memory on Friday 8 March (6–8PM).
