Nursery
Joshua de Gruchy
5–22 March
BSG Projects is pleased to present Nursery, a new body of work by represented artist Joshua de Gruchy. In this exhibition, line drifts into form, form settles into space, and balance emerges as both a compositional strategy and a way of being. These works unfold with a quiet assurance, shaped by an ongoing dialogue between the studio and the landscape.
Living and working on Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Country in Cottles Bridge, Victoria, de Gruchy’s practice is grounded in lived experience rather than formal training. His education has been the land itself — its shifting light, its dense undergrowth, its expanses of sky. He moves through the bush not as an observer alone, but as a participant, allowing the terrain to imprint itself upon memory.
Colour and contour become carriers of that experience. In Nursery, landscapes are not rendered literally but felt into being. Hovering between figuration and abstraction, the paintings hold the residue of time spent wandering — moments of stillness, immersion, and quiet revelation. They ask the viewer not simply to look, but to enter, to dwell, and to sense the pulse of place beneath the surface.
Nursery by Joshua de Gruchy is presented by BSG Projects.
