Tread Softly, This Earthen Place
TEO
6–23 March

In Tread Softly, This Earthen Place, TEO offers a contemplative exploration of the Australian bush, reflecting on the intimate relationship between the artist and the land they inhabit. Living off-grid in this wild and remote environment, TEO delves into the rhythms of the landscape through the lens of phenology—the study of cyclical natural phenomena and their interconnection with the broader ecosystem. This exhibition captures not only the artist's reverence for the land but also an acute awareness of its fragility, as it ebbs and flows through seasons, shifts in light, and cycles of growth and decay.

The works are abstract and ethereal, suggesting the hidden, ephemeral energies that pulse beneath the surface of the natural world. TEO’s paintings evoke the primal, often mystical quality of the bush, where the flora and the trees seem to communicate, their magnetic presence both inviting and ominous. The artist reflects on the deeper patterns of nature—the cycles of birth, transformation, and destruction—and how these patterns resonate within the artist's own experience of the landscape.

At the heart of the Tread Softly, This Earthen Place exhibition is a meditation on the responsibility inherent in human engagement with sacred spaces. The paintings invite a spiritual connection with the earth, encouraging the viewer to consider the land's subtle yet powerful rhythms while treading softly and acknowledging the deep interconnectedness that binds all living things.
