Weight of Witnessing emerges from the collaboration between researcher Dr Sevgi Kılıç and Martin Hodge. Sevgi’s long engagement with survivors of Turkey’s 1980 military junta — listening to and gathering testimonies of imprisonment, torture, and exile — provides the foundation from which Martin’s works take form. These are not direct translations, but imaginative transpositions: lived memories refracted through testimony, sculpture, and watercolour.
