Roadside Rye
Following her last show exploring an underworld Birrarung in Warrandyte, the artist returns to a reflective and refining practice. Having occupied a surreal and dramatic world to produce the last body of works, these new works explore how it has felt to mature one's ideas after a pivotal project.
The paintings reveal the artist's continued curiosity in revising the traditional landscape painting, the abstraction of the frame and the imposition of self into our environments. Her painted images are visual inspirations collected onto her phone; this body of work embraces the modern experience where our memories are shaped by camera grids and organised into cloud folders for safekeeping. By overlapping oils and digital visual cues, she marries the new and old.
