Looking for a quieter place
This work is about time and death and love and sex and fear and loss—and every other damn thing that makes up an ordinary life. Intentionally a uniform, small scale, these works are part of an ongoing, autobiographical body of work within my broader practice. There are a number of elements going on within these images. Much of my work is about an act of repetition, which is a practice of meditation. The burning of wood has become a negotiation with forces that are less controllable, discovering some kind of order and value. Although this work is partly about using formal qualities to find compositional solutions, they are ultimately embodiments of personal moments—like pages torn from a journal.
